KIRK HAMMETT Says BEATALLICA Are 'Cool'
September 24, 2003BEATALLICA, the Midwestern band which "coversBEATLES songs in the style of METALLICA, infusing the lyrics and arrangements of Fab Four standards with wonderfully unsubtle references to METALLICA's songs and a spot-on imitation of James Hetfield's distinctive vocals" (Ice magazine),were recently featured in Bizarre magazine. The journalist who wrote the article also interviewed METALLICA and played them the BEATALLICA tracks to get their opinion. Here's what Kirk Hammett had to say about it:
Q: What do you think?
Kirk: I think it is cool when people do shit like that. Reinterpret our music and fashion and things. It's not flattery, it's just fun for me.
Q: So you approve?
Kirk: Oh yeah! Well, I am not sure if I approve so much but I think that it is cool. You call tell them that it's cool.
Q: I think they are terrified of getting sued by you.
Kirk: I think it is pretty cool. I am not sure what the legal ramifications are but I would be more worried about being sued by Paul McCartney than us because I heard that he is a force to deal with in music.
Q: Doesn't Michael Jackson own the rights now?
Kirk: Yeah, I suppose he does. I think he could probably use the cash.
